The proposed changes will be quite relevant, notably regarding remuneration standards and on the hiring and termination of employees. The intention is to have more employee-friendly rules, nonetheless there is a heated debate on some proposed amendments and their potential implications in the labor market. In this podcast, we dive into the fascinating connections between sports, labor economics, and labor law. Why do labor economists study sports? Because professional sports provide a unique, measurable environment to test core economic principles. Through the lens of sports, we also look at race and gender biases in areas like the NBA MVP vote and even NCAA tournament selections. With the help of statistical models, we uncover surprising biases and show how these models can be applied to real-world employment discrimination cases. View the video podcast here.
